OnlySP was created out of a simple idea: We want to focus solely on the single-player aspects of video games. That includes storylines, character development, campaign concept & design, and interviewing developers about how they plan and create their games’ single-player experience, among many other aspects of the single-player development cycle.
If you’re beginning to wonder why a site like this was created, do a simple Google search for “Single Player Gaming Website”. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a website that offers a dedicated and up to date picture of single-player based news reporting and writing. We want to offer our readers insightful articles about the relevance and importance of the single-player experience, simply because no one else will.

Nick Calandra (Site Owner/PR) – is the creator and owner of Only Single Player. His role on the site consists of the majority of PR work, site management and keeping things in check. He has been working around games journalism since 2010 with his first site titled TitanReviews, which later became Velocity Gamer. In the summer of 2012, Velocity Gamer died out and Only Single Player was born. Only Single Player is one of the only, if not the only site on the net that strictly covers single player games and continues to grow each and every day. Currently, Nick resides in Maryville, MO where he attends Northwest Missouri State University to earn a degree in Business Management.
Lachlan Williams (Editor in Chief) – the bossman in charge of the actual words of OnlySP. He’s the one who watches the others, yelling at them to meet their numerous deadlines and making sure they don’t make too many typos in their copy. His focus is on industry analysis and reviewing PC and PS4 games. Lachlan has been with OnlySP since September 2012, coming from a background in linguistics, creative writing, literature and education. When he isn’t writing, reviewing, or editing, his other interests include cooking and Judge Judy. Lachlan is based in Sydney, Australia.
Damien Lawardorn (Senior Editor) – handles the written content of Only Single Player in all of its forms, though focuses primarily on articles of editorial and analytical nature. He has been a part of Nick’s team since May of 2011 with no professional writing experience to his credit prior. Based in Queensland, Australia, he is currently studying for a Bachelor of Arts at James Cook University and aspires to be a journalist and novelist in the years to come.
Nathan Hughes (Editorial) - is one of Only SP’s main contributors to editorials whose main focus is to provide opinionated articles that are both fair and well-supported as well as discuss various aspects of the games industry in an unbiased manner. He is a newcomer at games journalism but has been dedicated to learn more about journalism and has found a strong passion in writing about his favourite pastime: games. Nathan is currently based in Kildare, Ireland and is studying Multimedia in Dublin City University to help broaden his skills for Only SP as well as pursue a media-based career.
James Thayer (Editorial) - watcher of internet videos, writer of internet words and proponent of the Oxford comma, has been reviewing, editing, and contributing to OnlySP since Fall 2013. He plays on a multitude of modern platforms but has a soft spot for boardgames and pen-and-paper RPGs. Games he is a fan of include shooter (first and third-person), RPG (Eastern and Western), strategy (turn-based and real-time), horror (scary and puzzling), racing (fast and slow) and sport (American and pretend).
Stephanie Muscari (Editor) – both writer/reviewer and editor of Only Single Player from Melbourne, Australia, is an aspiring novelist who loves writing—both fiction and non-fiction—and enjoys editing. Having graduated from University studying Professional Writing and Editing, Stephanie continues to do what she loves most: writing novels, short stories and poetry, as well as writing and editing articles for the site and listening to her favourite band, Linkin Park. But apart from writing, there is one other primary passion of hers. Video games. From playing Monkey Island on Microsoft DOS, to Doom, Mario, The Sims, Grand Theft Auto and Tomb Raider, her love for video games became a part of her life at a young age and they always will be.
Thomas Connelly (News, Reviews) - is a news writer with a passion for critiquing games. A PC-focused gamer, Thomas is one of OnlySP’s main reviewers for PC games. Largely a newcomer to games journalism, he has always been in love with the uniqueness of video games as a form of media and hopes to follow a career in the gaming industry. Thomas’ favorite pastimes (apart from gaming) include mountain climbing, biking and programming.
Simon Squire (Reviews) – is one of many writers of Only Single Player functioning primarily as part of the X1 team. He handles mostly Xbox One reviews, puts up gameplay videos and occasionally writes opinion pieces on games that inspire him and people that inspire games. He is relatively new to games journalism but has previous experience writing game reviews on his personal blog as well as creative writing through most of his youth. He is a member of the Canadian military as a communications specialist and has an autistic son with his wife who has inspired him to be a better person and be a stronger supporter of autism awareness.
Chris Penwell (News) - is mainly a news editor who writes opinion articles and reviews every once in a while. Previously an editor for PlayStation Euphoria, Chris has been able to interview the likes of Warren Spector (Game director of Deus Ex and the Epic Mickey series), Brad Foxhoven and Michael Hefferon (producers of the upcoming Ratchet and Clank movie), and Omar Kendall (the creative director of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale). Chris has been involved in the industry for 18 months and loves covering the latest announcements from the gaming landscape. Chris enjoys writing for OnlySP specifically because while multiplayer experiences are fun every once in a while, single player games are what captured him into hardcore gaming.
Owen Vince (Indie, Reviews) - works on reviews and interviews for OnlySP with an emphasis on indie games. He is new to video games journalism and writes on literature and ambient music elsewhere. He studied literature as a postgraduate, the legacy of which is his interest in narrative and of our engagements with and responses to games. He lives on the west coast of Wales and enjoys writing, reading, gaming and running up mountains occasionally.
Matt Bianucci (News, Reviews) - Loves to play all types of games, especially single player games. There are few games Matt won’t play. While he is new to the games journalism industry, he loves to write, talk and play games. He loves to share his opinions with the world through his reviews. He is PlayStation focused, writing reviews and news about the PS4, PS3, PS Vita and everything else PlayStation. Matt is currently a student based in the United States.
Adam McDermott (Video Content) – is in charge of taking the terrific articles being written for OnlySP and make videos using the article as a script of sorts. He has been making videos on and off for a few years and continues to improve the quality of the videos he creates each and every time. Making videos has always been a passion for Adam, and he has previously made promotional videos for sports and politics. Now he has turned his attention to games and is enjoying every minute. Adam currently resides in Limerick, Ireland.
Matthew Prichard (Forum Moderator) – is responsible for managing OnlySP’s forums. He also writes for the site. He’s a newcomer to video games journalism, and is eager to learn and develop his craft. He enjoys gaming, field hockey and writing. Matthew lives near Glasgow, in western Scotland.
