Single players, rejoice! Destiny, the new first-person shooter IP from Bungie that wowed crowds at this year’s E3, will give players the option to play the entire game solo, Bungie revealed in the latest Bungie Mail Sack.
The game, which has heavy RPG elements, has marketed from the beginning its system of matching up players of similar skill and dropping them into the same world for co-op play. Bungie demonstrated at E3 this concept of teaming up with others to finish a level then splitting the loot among the group. Bungie now says that this multiplayer feature is optional, though they think the experience will be much less engaging solo.
“If you never want to have a cooperative or competitive experience in Destiny, and if you want to experience every cinematic in private,” the post reads, “you’ll have the option. We believe you’ll be having way less fun, and we think you may find it really difficult to resist the pull of our cooperative vortex, but when we say we’re building activities for every mood, that includes players who don’t want to party up.”
So far there’s no word on whether the difficulty of the game will be leveled based on whether or not the player is in a party. But if you’re the type who doesn’t like to share the spotlight, rest assured that the option to hog the glory of victory all to yourself will be open in Destiny.
