Drakengard 3 Gets A Western Release Next Year Damien Lawardorn October 12, 2013 First announced back in March, Drakengard 3 hasn’t really been on OnlySP’s coverage radar due to the lack of any confirmation of a Western release, but it looks as though that’s going to change. Square Enix has announced that the game will be reaching shores other than Japan’s in 2014, and will be available exclusively on the Playstation 3. North American gamers will be getting a retail version, though Europeans will have to make do with a digital download. Drakengard 3 acts as a prequel to the earlier games, and has many of the staff members from those earlier games on board, including director Yoko Taro, producer Takamasa Shiba and designer Kimihiko Fujisaka, while Keiichi Okabe (Nier) is composing the score. Players will take on the role of Zero, one of six Utautai sisters, who has taken it upon herself to kill her sisters. With no apparent ulterior motive, it’s an interesting story concept. Gameplay allows you to fly upon the back of a dragon, Mikhail, and utilise hit-and-run tactics against enemies, but there is also a ground-based combat system that seems both slick and very deep. If you like action RPGs, particularly the earlier Drakengard games or Nier, which was created by the same core team and shared a tangential universe, this is almost certainly one to keep your eye on.
