Developer Cyanide has released a second gameplay trailer revealing more details for its upcoming sequel, Styx: Shards of Darkness.
The trailer shows off a variety of stealth gameplay mechanics that the eponymous goblin protagonist can utilize to move through the game’s world undetected. In the footage, Styx makes use of a stealth camouflage ability that allows him to pickpocket guards for various crafting materials. The character also displays the ability to clone himself in order to incapacitate his enemies. This ability allows Styx to be take out multiple guards simultaneously, with players controlling both entities to ensure full control over the encounter.
In addition to direct engagement, players will also have the option to manipulate guards, with the trailer including a segment wherein Styx uses an acidic trap, laying it in place before whistling for the guards’ attention and luring them to their demise.
The environment shown in the trailer sports multi-level wooden buildings with accessible rooftops, resulting in a degree of verticality to Styx‘s gameplay, and granting players the ability to stalk their opponents from tactical vantage points. This approach to level design also allows for ledge kills to dispose of enemies as players traverse higher buildings.
Furthermore, the player is able to use a scanning view, similar to that found in the Batman: Arkham or Assassin’s Creed series, to get an accurate view of what the level has in store.
This new title looks to improve upon the foundation set in Cyanide’s previous game, Styx: Master of Shadows. The developers have stated that this sequel will feature an enhanced bestiary, alongside the addition of side missions.
This latest gameplay trailer follows on from one earlier this year, which showed off eight minutes of footage and commentary.
Styx: Shards of Darkness is scheduled to arrive in March 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and is currently available for pre-order on Steam.
