Three Games the Single Players Should Look out for in January Chris Penwell January 2, 2014 2014 has just kicked off and we have a mixture of titles to start off the year including RPGs, remakes and a point and click adventure. While January may not be a stellar month in comparison to what’s coming up in the horizon, here are three single player games to look forward to this month. Might and Magic X Legacy Release Date: January 23rd 2014 Platforms: PC The prestigious Might and Magic series from Ubisoft will be getting a new 10th entry very soon. Those who loved the classic first person turn based combat seen in other RPGs such as Shin Megami Tensei and Legend of Grimrock will be right at home with Might and Magic X – Legacy as it keeps to the traditional mechanics of old. However, Limbic Entertainment, the developers of said game, have been able to add an open world, user created levels, and choices that can change the world of Agyn Peninsula. Currently on Steam Early Access, Might and Magic X Legacy is making a full release for PC on January 23rd for $29.99. Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD Release Date: 15th January 2014 Platforms: PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360 Previously available as a PlayStation Vita exclusive, Assassin’s Creed fans will finally be able to play Liberation on PS3, 360 and PC later this month. In this title, players follow the adventures of Aveline, a female assassin who is fighting against slavery and the Templars’ control of New Orleans between 1765 and 1780. To upgrade the experience, Ubisoft have enhanced both the graphics and gameplay of the original title. For example, I am not a huge fan of the persona system which has players switch between three different classes – slave, lady and assassin – as it slows down the action I would want from an Assassin’s Creed game. Liberation HD, however, is going to have reworked missions to improve the pacing and challenge of the game. Liberation HD, in comparison to its Vita counterpart, looks stunning, as according to Ubisoft it “introduces graphical improvements such as high-dynamic-range (HDR) rendering, high definition environments and characters, and updated cinematics.” Ubisoft have also added re-mastered music and all new sound effects to match a true console experience. Assassin’s Creed: Liberation HD will be coming to PS3, 360, and PC for $19.99 as a digital download. Broken Age Release Date: Sometime in January Platforms: PC, Linux, Mac, Android, iOS Double Fine, the developers behind Psychonauts and Brutal Legend rocked the gaming industry almost two years ago when they successfully received backing for a point and click adventure with over $3 million. Now that Kickstarted game is finally releasing this month in the form of one half of the full project called Broken Age. The game tells the story of two children – a young boy and girl – who live separate lives that are wildly different. The boy, voiced by Elijah Wood, is living a pampered but lonely life on a spaceship, looked after by a HAL 9000-esque computer. Despite having such a safe and luxurious life, the boy decides to leave so he can finally have an adventure. The girl, on the other hand, is reaching what seems like the end of her life as she is chosen to be sacrificed to a monster according tradition. Much like the boy, she decides to rebel and fight instead of simply giving up to the world around her. Get ready to experience an old school point and click adventure once again when it finally is available to download on PC, Linux, Mac, Android and iOS sometime in January.
