Ubisoft Might Not Be Releasing An Assassin’s Creed Game This Year, Heading to Egypt in 2017?

A new year has just begun and big rumors are already starting to circulate. Surprised? You shouldn’t be.

While it’s not necessarily a great source of information, an anonymous user on 4chan has made a post stating that a new Assassin’s Creed game won’t be released this year. Instead, Ubisoft is apparently revamping the series and will release the next entry in 2017. Here’s the full quote from 4chan:

“Egypt. There won’t be an AC in 2016. You may screencap this and refer to it when nothing is shown in E3 2016. You’ll have to wait until 2017 for it. The reason: It will be a complete revamp of the series. The game is going for a Witcher feel, with player progression, freeform combat system. Horse is back, and boats too. It’s made by the Black Flag team. You may leave any question you want answered.”

I’m wondering if this next Assassin’s Creed project might have anything to do with that leaked Osiris project that was uncovered a couple years ago. At the time, people thought it was a Prince of Persia game, but the trailer seemed to have more of an Egyptian vibe to it. You can check out that trailer for yourself by following the link if you’ve never seen it.

I don’t think Ubisoft will go without launching at least some sort of Assassin’s Creed game this year on next-gen consoles. In my opinion, we’ll finally get Assassin’s Creed: Rogue on the PS4 and Xbox One this year if this rumor proves true. We’ll just have to wait and see if Kotaku leaks anything again in a few months.
