198X Blends Classic Arcade Styles into One Colourful Package

Published

198x

In a delightfully retro release trailer, the Hi-Bit Studios’s 198X combines numerous arcade classic genres under one nostalgic roof.

The 198X trailer showcases several examples of games including a beat ‘em up, shoot ‘em up, a racing game, a Ninja Gaiden-esque side-scroller, and an RPG. The themes shown in the trailer all display a unique play style while retaining an overall colourful resemblance.

At the heart of the plot is protagonist, Kid, and their coming of age story. The game begins with Kid discovering a local arcade where the lines between reality and video games start to blur. Hi-Bit describes the title as “a love letter to the golden age of arcade games – yet with a scope that was never possible in the actual 1980s.”

The aesthetics of the title alone are stunning with each glimpse of the different arcade games looking just as polished as the others. The ambitious project will arrive first on PC and PlayStation 4 on June 20, 2019, and later on Switch and Xbox One.

Digimon Survive

The opening movie for Bandai Namco’s survival strategy game, Digimon Survive, has been released.

The opening was first shown exclusively at the “Future of Digimon” panel at Anime Expo 2019 back on July 6. The opening shows an earthquake that has hit Kanobe City, as well as some ominous red eyes (presumably Digimon) surrounding an old man in a forest. Near the end, the main character, Takuma, sees a mysterious silhouette of a girl, and the opening finishes with her singing.

Digimon Survive follows Takuma and his companion, Agumon, as they make decisions to stay alive and escape a bizarre dimension.

Digimon Survive will release on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox One in 2020.
