343 Industries entered the scene in a blaze of fiery death and glory with their entry into the Halo franchise. After delivering their strong offering for the core series, it seems that 343 are already working on something “groundbreaking” for the Halo universe.

A job advert posted on the Microsoft careers site has revealed that “343 Industries is looking for an experienced Creative Director to lead and deliver a groundbreaking new AAA entertainment experience set in the Halo universe.”

As expected, the advert calls for standard advert things, such as “boundless imagination”, “deep understanding of the game development process”, and “the ability to ideate combined with the communication skills necessary to concisely direct the creative efforts of the team.”

343 are after someone with 8+ years experience with designing console games, experience as a Creative Director, and a history of creating an IP that has sold over 3 million.

Most interestingly, however, is this line in the requirements category:

“A comprehensive understanding of games (especially the action/shooter genre), gameplay mechanics and player psychology combined with an ability to identify, analyze and rectify game design and gameplay issues”

This suggests the new team may be in charge of a new FPS – either a core Halo title (possibly, but probably not), or, more likely, a direct spinoff like ODST or Reach. The action/shooter stipulation does seem to rule out a Halo Wars 2, however nothing is confirmed/denied/revealed/other as of yet.

Regardless of the specifics, this advert further entrenches 343’s involvement and cements their place in Halo‘s future going forward.

Thanks, Hardcore Gamer.
