Former Ubisoft, Tarsier Developers’ Viking RTS Bad North Finds Publisher

Bad North

The publisher behind indie cyberpunk adventure The Last Night is set to also set to publish a “minimalistic” RTS called Bad North next year.

Bad North puts players in control of a group of island dwellers as they aim to defend their home from ravening Viking hordes. The game will make use of procedurally generated islands and events, with the initial group gaining resources and followers from NPCs that they defend. According to the developers, the simplistic and charming visuals belie unexpected brutality and depth, with each unit “individually simulated.”

Meanwhile, publisher Raw Fury is relatively new, but is quickly making a name for itself as the purveyors of some intriguing indie titles, the most prominent of which is, arguably, The Last Night, which received considerable attention following its appearance in Microsoft’s E3 indie showcase.

Bad North is being developed by a three-person team. Lead Artist Oskar Stålberg previously worked at Ubisoft on The Division, while Programmer Richard Meredith spent six years at Tarsier Studios working on the LittleBigPlanet series and Little Nightmares. Finally,  Martin Kvale is handling music and audio on the game, with his previous credits including Teslagrad and Among the Sleep.

The game is currently scheduled to launch at some point in 2018 on PC, console, and mobile platforms. For all the latest on Bad North and much more from the world of single-player gaming, be sure to bookmark OnlySP and follow us on FacebookTwitter, and Tumblr.
