Draugen releases officially tomorrow, but the development team seems to already be working on a sequel.
The end of the closing credits of the game contains a brief message (pictured below) that “Edward and Alice will return.” Further details are not forthcoming, and the game itself offers few hints as to the direction a prospective sequel might take.
Such a project might not even happen, as similar teases in other games (such as Dante’s Inferno) have amounted to nothing. The prospects will no doubt depend on the commercial performance of the Draugen, although Red Thread Games might also expand the story in another media format.
In any case, the message seems at odds with the revelation earlier this month that the team is already working on a cartoony post-eco-collapse road trip game called Dustborn, for which it recently received a NOK2,000,000kr grant from the Norwegian Film Institute.
OnlySP’s review of Draugen scored the game as a Distinction, saying that “it shows what mastery of the ‘walking simulator’ format looks like.”
