It’s happened. We all knew this day would come. Are we prepared? Could we have done more??
Nintendo have today announced the inevitable – there will be two new Pokemon games for the 3DS in 2013.
Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo, has revealed the new Pokemon game in this video. Titled Pokemon X and Y, these represent the first Pokemon games released for the 3DS. Along with the two new protagonists, there will be the inevitable new starters and legendaries, and a slew of new monsters to put in your pocket. The starters have been announced as Chespin (grass), Fennekin (fire), and Froakie (water), and the legendaries are a Y shaped bird and a deer Pokemon which is also Y shaped however will probably end up X shaped due to titular symmetry.
More significantly, X and Y looks like it will feature a complete graphics overhaul. Of course there is 3D implementation. It seems like there are some new lower perspectives, and some new battle animations. It looks like wild Pokemon actually come out of the environment, with a zoom in to battle, rather than a simple cut to battle sequence that exists in previous titles. New battle animations zoom and pan around the battling Pokemon, and there are some enhanced creature animations that feature, well, actual animation.
X and Y will reportedly take advantage of tech found in the 3DS, however no specifics have been mentioned yet. For the first time, Nintendo are aiming for a simultaneous global release, meaning America, Europe, and Australia will get it at the same time as Japan.
It will be released in October, so prepare your Pokemon-training thumbs for action.
