The celebrated tabletop game Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is receiving a video game adaptation thanks to developer Auroch Digital.
Achtung! brings a zany perspective to the Lovecraft mythos, with the game being set in an alternate WW2 timeline where Nazi Germany gains a significant advantage by attaining the ability to command Lovecraftian monsters.
The occult-based strategy title will use its evocative premise to push forward uniquely hybridised combat that meshes together strategic and RPG-inspired tropes.
Players will command a squad of four hero characters—Captain Eric “Badger” Harris, Ariane Dubois, Corporal Akhee, and Seargent Brandon Carter—each with their own abilities, combat specialisations, and backstories.
Beyond these four central heroes, players will be joined by several militia, namely Badger’s British Commando unit and The Keijin, a demon hunting Native American tribe.
Speaking in a press release, the developer expanded on the appeal of the source material, and the inspiration behind the project:
“We’re taking that nigh-on faultless foundation and transporting it into the video game medium, via our favourite genre, the turn-based tactics game. With the genre experiencing something of a comeback in recent years, we feel Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics will not only deliver an incredibly compelling theme and world to play in, but also offer innovative gameplay possibilities.”
An announcement trailer, embedded below, was also released, which details the game’s art design:
The title will be released in Q4 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch port coming at a later date.
