Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey Opening Cinematic, World Size Revealed

Panache Digital Games has showcased the opening cinematic of its upcoming title Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey.

During a conversation with Geoff Keighley at E3 Coliseum 2019, creative director Patrice Désilets revealed the opening cutscene for the game, which features several predators hunting their prey. Following the introduction of the game’s logo, the cinematic shows a member of an ape clan being killed and transitions to gameplay, as the player controls a baby ape and finds shelter. The player then takes control of an adult member of the ape clan as they track down the baby.

Later in the footage, the player witness a crashing meteorite and decides to track it down. Collecting the meteorite will reward the player, though Désilets refuses to reveal how. He also notes that this action is optional for the player; as he mentioned yesterday, the game allows the player to make their own decisions.

Désilets revealed that the game world is about 52 km³; to run from one end of the game world to the other takes around 45 minutes.

The game begins 10 million years in the past and lasts around eight million years.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey was first announced in 2015 by Désilets, known for his work on Assassin’s Creed (including the original game, its sequel, and Brotherhood) and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. After slowly releasing information in the years to follow, Panache Digital Games partnered with Take-Two Interactive’s new publishing label Private Division to distribute the game, later revealing gameplay and a release window at The Game Awards 2018.

The game will be released on August 27, 2019 for PC via the Epic Games Store, and in December 2019 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The game will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store on PC for 12 months, after which point it will become available on other retailers.
