Assassin’s Creed Odyssey Exploration Mode Promises a Hands-Off Approach to Objectives

Assassin’s Creed fans will be inspired to take a player-driven approach to exploration in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Odyssey thanks to a novel new mode.

Ubisoft’s latest open-world opus will allow users to choose between a ‘Guided Mode’ and ‘Exploration Mode’ throughout the adventure. The former populates the map with the exact whereabouts of points of interest, while the latter instead provides a rough idea, with players then having to use their pet eagle to pinpoint the location of objectives.

The choice between the two gameplay types will be offered early in the title, though fans will reportedly be able to switch at any time. Ubisoft describes the mode as “the way Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is meant to be experienced,” and the description certainly sounds as though it will inject a much-needed sense of agency into the series—which has heretofore been criticised for overstuffing its environments with markers—by giving players greater freedom to wander off the beaten track.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will take players to Ancient Greece and, for the first time in series history, allow the user to choose between a male or female character for the entire duration of the game. OnlySP recently had the chance to go hands-on with the highly anticipated title, and that preview will be available soon. Ubisoft has already revealed that the series will be taking another break in 2019.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is slated to launch October 5, 2018 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
