Tactical robot medley Battletech, the next turn-based strategy game developed by Harebrained Games, is releasing on PC April 24.
The release date was revealed at the end of the project’s most recent trailer, which details a closer look at the game’s robots, weapons, and theatres of war. Along with story information, the newest footage shows off some of the project’s comic book-inspired art style, as well as fresh gameplay footage, which looks equally as detailed.
The teaser tells the familiar story of deposed royalty reclaiming their throne. Of course, even though Battletech‘s themes may feel like narrative tautology in gaming at the moment, no recent game has been told through the lens of futuristic mechanical warfare. Interestingly, however, the player will not be taking the role of the royalty themselves, but the gun-for-hire commander supporting them.
The tactical gameplay of Battletech looks to incorporate the usual expectations of RTS mech games with the intricacies of mercenary economics, politics, and warfare.
Battletech appears to be mirroring and improving upon the tabletop source material effectively thus far, which is an impressive feat. The project recently suffered an extensive delay in late 2017, so backers and fans of the crowdfunded project will be happy that Harebrained got the game over the finish line so quickly.
