Bioshock: Infinite multiplayer has been cancelled

6

Anyone remember Bioshock 2‘s multiplayer? Chances are you don’t, or if you do then it wasn’t for a good reason. Irrational Games have likely reflected on this, as it’s been revealed that the multiplayer component of the upcoming Bioshock: Infinite is being scrapped, if it existed to begin with.

Apparently, two multiplayer modes were planned to be included. The first was to be a tower defense mode where shrunk players would fend off waves of mechanized toys, while the second was a series of missions based on campaign locations that could be played cooperatively, much like the Spec Ops missions from Modern Warfare. Both modes were reportedly canned due to low quality, and because Irrational wanted to focus more on the single player component.

Bioshock: Infinite is releasing on February 26th for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Make sure to follow OnlySP for more low quality news.

  1. I did enjoy Bioshock 2's multiplayer for a while. It was crazy and fun, for me at least. But I would rather have them focus on the single player than waste time on a multiplayer that will not last, because let's face it, it wouldn't.

    1. I totally agree. I thought Bioshock 2's multiplayer was pretty entertaining, considering its single player focus. (This coming from someone who doesn't really like much multiplayer). But I am pretty glad Irrational is sparing no resource to deliver a solid single player campaign. It always depresses me when a developer lets a campaign go unfulfilled in favor of more multiplayer.

      Can't wait for Infinite!

  2. Good news! I loved the first Bioshock, but the second, while I enjoyed it, just wasn't quite up to the same standard. I have to wonder if not for the resources and time spent on MP, could it have been better? Infinite looks amazing and i'm hoping that dropping the MP components will help it reach its potential.
