Bloober Team has confirmed that its new Blair Witch game will become canon, so any future story in the Black Hills Forest will reference events that take place in the story.
Bloober Team writer Basia Kciuk and developer Maciek Glomb shared new details about the game’s story during Gamespot’s E3 livestream. When the developers were asked about their version of Blair Witch, they confirmed that Bloober Team has taken the iconic IP, but turned it into a new story.
However, the most surprising revelation is that the game will become canon for the wider Black Hills Forest saga. Therefore, the events that take place in the story will be used in the future. This means that hardcore Blair Witch fans will need to either play or be aware of what happens in the game for future movies, TV series, or games.
Bloober Team also discussed the game’s replayability value, confirming a lot of dialogue, so players are unable to experience all dialogue options in just one playthrough. Additionally, players who do a second playthrough will have a different perspective, which adds to the value of replaying.
In addition, Bloober Team hinted that the game may have different endings depending on what events take place within that playthrough, though this has not been officially confirmed.
Gameplay of Blair Witch has also revealed Bullet, the dog, the only other character in a desolate forest. Bullet has been designed with meticulous thought. In fact, Bullet has been designed to emotionally manipulate the player. Protagonist Ellis and Bullet’s relationship will be “crucial for cooperation,” and the pair must “communicate with each other” to express what each of them wants out the relationship.
