Gearbox have announced that the Mechromancer character class is only just a concept and that they expect the class “to become a reality at some time after Borderlands 2 is completed.” Gearbox also released a statement:
As with many new ideas, we don’t yet know exactly how the Mechromancer will play or when she will be available, but our estimate is that she will be released within 60 to 90 days after the launch of Borderlands 2. At that time, we also expect to release a compatibility update so that people who have the Mechromancer can play with those who don’t.
As a special thank you to our early supporters, the Mechromancer will be available as a free download to members of the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club, which you can gain access to by pre-ordering Borderlands 2 from a participating retailer. The Mechromancer will also be available as premium downloadable content for those who aren’t Premiere Club members at the same time.

The Mechromancer class has been revealed for Borderlands 2 at PAX East. The class will basically be a mix of human and machine, with the ability to control D374-TP (Deathtrap) robots.
The character will be included as free DLC to those who pre-order the game. Other players will be able to purchase the new class at an unannounced price. Gearbox also revealed the ability to customize character wardrobe and earn gear. There is also going to be a collector’s edition set at $149.99 that includes a Marcus bobblehead in a case that resembles a loot box.
Borderlands 2 is set to release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on September 18th. Are you excited for the loot and shoot sequel? Leave your comments below!
