The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Friday’s 1.6.0 update to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mainly added support for the Labo Toy-Con VR Goggles, but it brought another big improvement to the game.

French speedrunner Alexis “Pikastroff” de Champris recently tweeted out two videos showing improved Switch load times in Shrine maps after the VR update:

These videos break down how 1.6.0 now saves several seconds when loading compared to 1.5.0. In a follow-up tweet, Pikastroff notes that his tests were run using a physical edition of the game. He also claims that Switch and Wii U load times are now “almost even.”

This update is naturally worth celebrating as a speedrunner, and Pikastroff went on to set a new personal best time for Any% that same day.

Zant, another well-known Breath of the Wild speedrunner, backed Pikastroff’s claims and went even further to state that “Shrine loads seem to be faster than 1.5, now beating Wii U for the first time.” He also cited “noticeably less overworld lag when moving fast.”

A free Labo VR update also shipped for Super Mario Odyssey, and a Speedrun.com staff member replied to Zant’s tweet claiming that its load times have also been improved.
