Bundling Modern Warfare Remastered With Infinite Warfare Is Just Wrong

0

Activision and Infinity Ward have slapped us with an ultimatum: if you want Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, then you need to buy Infinite Warfare. No exceptions. That’s just wrong in my book.

Yes, the remaster is looking mighty fine (a preview of which you can view at the bottom of this post). Yes, Infinite Warfare is looking to live up to its promise of returning to the large-scale warfare roots its predecessors became known for (campaign gameplay trailer also at bottom of post).

But why should we have to buy Infinite Warfare just to get the remaster, bearing in mind that only the Digital Deluxe, Legacy and Legacy Pro editions have the remaster? You read that right: the standard edition doesn’t have the remaster.

Granted, shelling out the extra dollars gets you a prettier Modern Warfare and, depending on what edition you get, other bonuses. But prettier graphics, a Season Pass, and “additional bonus content” aside, why bundle it with Infinite Warfare? What if someone doesn’t want to get Infinite Warfare? Why shouldn’t they be able to buy the remaster separately?

The simple answer is marketing and profitability. But a second look exposes a flaw in logic to me at least. Shouldn’t allowing consumers to buy the remaster separately from the editions of Infinite Warfare bundled with it bring in more profit?

It just doesn’t make much sense to me. Does it make sense to you? Sound off in the comments below.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is due out later this year on November 4 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. (Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is bundled with the Infinite Warfare Digital Deluxe, Legacy and Legacy Pro editions only, not with the standard edition.)
