Check out Nitronic Rush… NOW!!!

You like racing games. You like free games. You like awesome soundtracks. You like innovative gameplay. But you can’t find anything that combines all of these elements into one seamless whole. Well…

Enter Nitronic Rush, a free futuristic racer made by the talented folks at Team Nitronic that honestly puts many full-priced retail games to shame. The team is comprised of students from the Digipen institute of technology, and after seeing their initial prototype and being impressed, the faculty encouraged them to finish the title and make it the ‘mascot game’ of Digipen.

The game boasts a simple but pleasant cyber aesthetic not unlike that of Tron. It’s primarily an arcade racer, but with a few devilish tricks up its sleeve. For one, you can use the boosters on the front, back, and sides of your car to perform dizzying flips and barrel rolls through the air that net you points. Also, your car can not only jump, but fly. IT CAN FLY. WITH WINGS. MY LIFE IS COMPLETE. From what I’ve played, the tracks are very well designed and the soundtrack is actually synchronous with the environments. It’s not uncommon to see certain pieces of scenery shake to the beat of a song, which is impressive to say the least. Fans of the indie hit Audiosurf should definitely take a look.

You can check out the trailer below, and you can download the full drool-inducingly awesome game here. Be sure to give this team some well-deserved attention. It certainly won’t hurt your wallet. To quote a certain Arnold; “COME ON! DO IT! DO IT NOW!”
