Bandai Namco’s Code Vein To Launch In September

Published

 on

Code Vein, the Souls-like action RPG by Bandai Namco, has been given a release date of September 28 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The announcement came alongside a new story trailer, embedded below, which focuses upon the project’s co-operative mechanics and its mix of Eastern and Western artistic influences. The developer has placed a lot of emphasis on the game’s visual style, aiming to find a middle ground between anime-based design and realism.

In terms of gameplay, Code Vein is melange of Dark Souls-inspired evasion systems, action RPG mechanics, and the incorporation of finishers akin to spectacle fighters such as Devil May Cry. Where Code Vein endeavours to be different is in its AI-companion system, wherein players are expected to decide between five companions, with each partner directly influencing the gameplay.

In the project’s story, players will assume the role of a “revenant” who needs to consume blood to prevent themselves from becoming a “lost.” Being a Bandai Namco game, the story will likely follow similar Eastern-inspired arcs as the rest of the company’s single-player bibliography. The story trailer is centred around similar levels as previously shown off in April’s flashy gameplay trailer.

Stalker 2 is Not A Revived Version of the Cancelled 2012 Project

Stalker 2

Stalker 2 has been confirmed as an entirely new project that has no basis on the cancelled 2012 sequel.

Roughly a decade ago, fans were excited when Stalker 2 was announced. Unfortunately, in 2012, Ukrainian developers GSC Games World was shut down and all progress on the sequel was put on hold.

All went quiet until 2014 where the company resurfaced and announced that development on a version of Stalker 2 was underway. Despite a developer build for the original Stalker 2 making its way onto the web, GSC Games World chose to start from scratch and create an entirely new AAA experience for the series.

GSC Games World has so far not stated why the decision was made to start from the beginning, aside from the assurance that the new game is currently in development and will hopefully hit stores in 2021.
