Dark Souls 2 – Titanite Farming Guide

Let’s be honest, Dark Souls 2 is a pretty tough game and you’re going to need all the help you can get. We’ve decided to construct a guide for all you single players out there to help make your time in Drangleic a little bit easier. Previously, we talked about farming souls to help you level up. Now, it’s time to discuss upgrading your gear by farming/purchasing titanite.

(Spoilers ahead)

Titanite was discovered in an ancient layer of Earth, and is said to be a gift of the gods.

Like Demon Souls and Dark Souls before it, Dark Souls 2 implements the use of Titanite, a rare material that is used to upgrade your equipment and is available in shards, chunks and slabs all over Drangleic. Here are the best spots to find titanite in Dark Souls 2.

Titanite Shard – The titanite shard is the “beginner level” titanite and can upgrade equipment to +3.

  • You can purchase 10 from the Blacksmith Leningrast at Majula for 800 souls a piece.
  • You can purchase from Stone Trader Chloanne for 1000 souls a piece.

If you are defeating enemies and waiting for drops, be sure to equip the Merchant’s Hat which you can receive by picking the Explorer class or by purchasing from the Merchant Hag Melentia for 850 souls. You can also equip Covetous Gold Serpent Ring which is sold by Magerold of Lanafir in Iron Keep. Both items help raise the chances of a drop.

  • Common drop from the Undead Blacksmiths in Harvest Valley/Earthen Peak.
  • Common drop from Skeletons in Harvest Valley.
  • Uncommon drop from villagers in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

A total of 6 titanite shards are required to upgrade your weapon from 0 to +3.

Large Titanite Shard – Large titanite shards can upgrade equipment to +6.

  • Sold by McDuff in Lost Bastille in unlimited supply for 2500 souls.
  • You can purchase 10 from Stone Trader Chloanne for 2500 souls a piece.
  • Uncommon drop from Worm Monsters in Black Gulch.
  • Uncommon drop from villagers in Brightstone Cove Tseldore.
  • Common drop from Old Iron Knights (Turtle Knights) in Forest of Fallen Giants/Iron Keep.
  • Common drop from Undead Mages in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.
  • Common drop from Spider people in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.

A total of 6 large titanite shards are required to upgrade your weapon from +3 to +6.

Titanite Chunk – Titanite chunks can upgrade equipment to +9.

  • Trade with Dyna and Tillo The Crows (Things Betwixt) in exchange for Small Smooth + Silky stones (rare).
  • Purchase from Stone Trader Chloanne for 6000 souls a piece.
  • Obtained as reward by killing an intruder as part of the Bell Tower covenant.
  • Rare drop by Undead Peasants in Brightstone Cove Tseldora.
  • Rare drop by Coal Tar (worm monster that hides in pools) in Black Gulch.

Titanite Slab – Titanite slabs can upgrade your equipment from +9 to +10. Very rare.

  • Purchase from Stone Trader Chloanne near the end of the game.
  • Obtained as a reward for killing 10 intruders as part of the Bell Tower covenant.
  • Trade with Dyna and Tillo The Crows (Things Betwixt) in exchange for Small Smooth + Silky stones (rare).
  • Rare drop by stone warriors and soldiers at Drangleic Castle.

Go to the King’s Gate bonfire and kill the six iron soldiers there. They will respawn indefinitely and will drop titanite slabs fairly often. This is a great site for soul and slab farming, particularly if you use Darkstorm with the Witchtree Bellvine +6, Hexer’s Hood and armor and rings that increase drops and increase soul collection rate. I’m working on my fifth million souls here and have sold 99 slabs and have nearly another 99 to sell along with 99 in my storage box, in about 2 days of intermittent playing. I get about 2800 souls per round of six soldiers and 2 drops of slabs every 4-5 rounds. Using Darkstorm I can do two rounds at least per minute with the Bluestone ring and 53 Endurance, and with Santier’s Spear +5 about one round per minute. With some patience, this is a great spot to grind up points and slabs with relatively no risk.
