It seems zombie fans have just ONE more game to look out for within the next 12 months. Accompanying, DayZ, The War Z, Class3, Zombi U and I’ll even include Black Ops 2 zombies, Dead Island Riptide is set to take you back to paradise to fight off more undead hordes. The press release has given us our first peak at what the game’s plot is this time around, and instead of me trying to summarize it, we’ll just post the details here straight from the horses mouth.

Having survived the ordeals of the zombie infestation on the once beautiful island resort of Banoi, our group of survivors thought they had finally found a safe place to escape from this terrifying nightmare. But they were wrong. Shortly after the battle-hardened team had landed their helicopter on a military ship, a furious storm hits and havoc quickly spreads on board. Suddenly they find themselves struggling for their lives again with all hope drowning in the rising waves.

With invigorating new elements infused into a proven mix, Dead Island Riptide will reanimate the zombie terror in the original game. A monsoon has hit the once beautiful archipelago and heavy rainstorms have laid waste to large areas of the islands. The city of Henderson and jungle areas on the island of Palanai were flooded leaving boats as the only remaining way of transportation. Dynamic weather conditions will force the team members to adapt to changing visibility conditions.

A fifth character will join the team, with an all-new and unique skillset. The combined skills of the group will be sorely needed, since terrible, new and unknown zombie mutations have emerged all over the island.

One of the most interesting new details about the game is actually the inclusion of a tower defense mode where you must scavenge the island for materials and set up fences, turrets and traps to fend off the zombie hordes. Riptide will still put a major focus into close quarters combat, so guns will still be a scarce resource. If you played the first game you can import your character into Riptide. The game engine is also being upgraded to optimize game performance and graphics. Another new feature in Riptide will be the inclusion of a weather system, the can cause floods and other natural disasters. Checkout the first screenshots, and a teaser trailer for the game just below. The game is slated for a 2013 release on the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 as a standalone game.

  1. I really hate teaser trailers like this. They just seem so pointless.

With this being shown off just reminds me that I need to get around to playing the first game. I&#039ve got it just sitting on my shelf.
