Debut Details and Gameplay Footage of First Person Horror Title, Tether

Tether

Freesphere Entertainment has today released the first gameplay footage of their upcoming debut title, Tether.

Tether is a first-person horror game, set against the backdrop of an Earth in the midst of a climate crisis caused by the destruction of the moon. None of that, however, is present in the trailer (embedded below), which focuses instead on introducing the main playable environment and the core gameplay mechanics.

In this respect, Tether seems to follow in the footsteps of Gone Home and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, as one of the oft-derided “walking simulators”, wherein players must unravel a mystery in the wake of unexpected occurrences, rather than more traditional first-person horror games such as Amnesia and Outlast.

Players take the role of Lesleigh Hayes, a biologist aboard the UEF Sonne, a spaceship bound for Mars, as she struggles to overcome the psychological pressures of isolation within deep space. The true star of the trailer, however, is the environment, which is both highly detailed and very atmospheric, which Lesleigh explores, picking up useful items as well as text and audio logs that expand the story.

Freesphere Entertainment is an indie outfit founded in May 2015.

Tether currently has a tentative release date of Q3 2017. You can find out more about the game on its Steam Greenlight page.
