Bethesda and id Software’s highly anticipated DOOM (2016) sequel, DOOM Eternal, has been delayed until next year.

On Twitter, id Software posted a statement noting that DOOM Eternal would now be releasing on March 20, 2020 instead of its original November 22, 2019 release date. The studio mentioned that more time is needed to polish the game up to its standards and that it will be “worth the wait.”

Additionally, DOOM 64 will be a preorder bonus for the game on all platforms, and thus will also be released on March 20, 2020. The Switch version of DOOM Eternal will also launch at a later date after the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One versions.

Id Software has also discussed releasing DOOM Eternal on current generation platforms and the possibilities that come with next-generation consoles. OnlySP’s Michael Cripe played the game at E3 2019 and says that “id seems to be defying all odds by bringing fans a game that turns everything players loved about 2016’s DOOM up one notch.”
