DOOM – Reboot of the Franchise, Takes Place on Mars, ID Tech 6 and More

3

DOOM is currently in the middle of being revealed at Quakecon tonight, with only the people at the event getting a chance to see it. Obviously, we aren’t there but we’ve got fresh details coming in hot from the event and they are as follows:

DOOM is a reboot of the franchise in its entirety. The latest game will feature run and gun gameplay, with some added melee combat mechanics and exploration. The game takes place on Mars around a UAC research facility. The game will be running on ID Tech 6 which was formally announced today, and yes, it will be 1080p and 60FPS

Gameplay-wise, there will be no regenerative health but there will be lots of weapons and “big” ones as well.

The game will feature many different types of demonic enemies which were results of the experiments being conducted at the UAC facility and will create unique combat experiences. Blood and gore is also a core element of the DOOM series and will be returning for the reboot in full form. According to some tweets, during the live demo an enemy had its head blown off with a shotgun, and then split in two after being shot again. You can also tear limbs of fallen foes to use for unlocking doors through the skin scanner machine in the movie.

That demo took place in part of the research facility according to the tweets.

In the second part of the demo, viewers were treated to atmospheric cave system that some said reintroduced the tensional horror from the previous games. The demo finally ended with a huge boss appearing which you can get a glimpse of in the teaser picture above.

DOOM is coming to the PS4, Xbox One and PC sometime in 2015. According to Bethesda’s website, this footage was exclusive for those at Quakecon and we may not see the game again until next year. Maybe that has changed, but for now we’re not sure.

The demos that were shown were from the single player campaign of the game, but there will be a fast paced competitive multiplayer component to the game as well.

  3. Dammit! Not a single clip or screenshot?! Also, they seem to have taken (quite a lot of) cues from Serious Sam. I couldn’t be happier. Although, I really liked Doom 3. Only Doom game I played till the end. Ah, the memories … and yeah, I got the PS3 version, gonna check it out on a Doom marathon when Doom 4 comes out …
