Norse Horror Draugen will be a Standalone Game, Not the Beginning of a Series

Following Draugen‘s impressive debut trailer in November, the developer Red Thread Games has revealed that no possibility exists for the title to evolve into a franchise.

Replying to a perturbed fan on Twitter, the developer stated that the game will be standalone:

Draugen is set along a stretch of Norwegian coast in the 1920s where players will encounter all kinds of Norse-inspired horrors. Interestingly, players will experience Draugen alongside a “living, breathing, independent companion” who will respond to the game’s “realistic and dynamic dialogue system.”

The synopsis of the story available on Steam reads as a classic interpretation of finding a missing loved one, albeit through the lens of the relatively uncommon aesthetic of Norwegian horror:

“The year is 1923. You play Edward Charles Harden, an American traveller who’s come to Norway to find his missing sister. But you’re not alone: at every step of the way, Edward’s accompanied by his ward, Lissie; a gregarious, independent and enigmatic young woman. Together, you must explore this scenic coastal community — nestled amongst the fjords and mountains of rural Norway—in your search for Edward’s sister, and unearth the darkness that lies beneath the picturesque surface.”

Draugen is set to release in 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
