Fans of the survival horror genre have a new, tongue-twisting title to look forward to. Reality Pump, the developers behind the Two Worlds series, have announced their upcoming game Sacrilegium. They have released a few Alan Wake-inspired screenshots, as well as an overview of the plot.
Alex, the 20-something female protagonist, is a college student in California. She is trained in self-defense and martial arts, which will apparently come in handy on her trip to the European province of Sacrilegium. There, she will encounter the Moroi – modern day vampires that “make the ancient legends seem like fairy tales.” On the game’s official website, publisher Take Two Interactive gives a bit more insight:
Its rich and nuanced plot follows the young woman Alex across the world, from the misty shores of San Francisco to the fearsome and foreboding corners of the Old Continent. There, Alex learns that assumptions can be lethally deceptive and that the seemingly safe modern world is but half of a chamber divided by a dark curtain… that beyond that opaque veil lies the embodiment of nightmares spawned into flesh.
Thrust in the middle of a deadly plot filled with trope-shattering twists, intrigue, and betrayal, Alex must call upon her instincts, skills, knowledge and devotion to survive and make it out alive with her mind and soul intact – as well as save her friends from a fate in which even death seems a blessing.
Reality Pump is employing their Grace 2 game engine and promises cinematic action and animation beyond what gamers have seen before. While that may be somewhat of an overstatement, we’re interested to see what they can bring to the survival horror genre. No release date has been confirmed, but Take Two has stated that Sacrilegium will be coming out for the XBox 360, PS3, and PC.
