Respawn Entertainment long-awaited VR project has finally been unveiled as a return to the classic shooter franchise Medal of Honor.
Revealed at Oculus Connect 6 today, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is currently slated to be an Oculus exclusive.
Besides the technological shift, the game will return to the series roots of World War II. Players will take the role of an Office of Strategic Services agent in a “deep single-player” adventure across war-torn Europe.
While few concrete details of that campaign are available, the debut trailer (embedded below) shows conflict in France, while the accompanying blog post mentions “historic events on land, air, and sea.”
The team claims to have interviewed veterans to ensure an authentic experience.
Above and Beyond is the first entry in the series since 2012’s Medal of Honor: Warfighter and the first since 2007 to take on a historical setting, after Danger Close’s short-lived reboot series provided a modern take.
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond will be available in 2020. In the meantime, Respawn’s next game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will launch on November 15, with a new trailer set to drop in the coming days.
