From May 25, 2017 to May 29, 2017, Fallout 4’s base content will be free to Xbox Live Gold members and Steam users.
Set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland in Boston, Fallout 4 lets players wander freely through mutant-infested, bandit-riddled, radiation-poisoned desolation. Tackling side missions and a main storyline that has the main character looking for their kidnapped child, gamers will confront enemies with a variety of weapons. Rifles, pistols, baseball bats, grenades, and several other items make up the player’s arsenal. However, ammunition can be scarce and must be salvaged from defeated enemies or scavenged while exploring Boston. Vendors also offer ammunition, which can be purchased with “caps,” the currency in Fallout 4, earned by completing side missions and looting enemies and containers around the game world.
In addition to the free access for Xbox Live Gold members and Steam users, the PlayStation Store and Xbox Live will offer savings for the Fallout 4 base game and Season Pass, with discounts up to 67% off. Participants in Fallout 4’s free weekend will also be able to try out mods for the game.
Fallout 4 released on November 10, 2015 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Bethesda Games Studios developed the game while Bethesda Softworks handled publication and distribution. Fallout 4 received generally positive reviews on all three platforms, with reviewers praising the game’s immersion in a post-apocalyptic world, combat, thought-provoking narrative, and the large amount of content. OnlySP’s James Schumacher scored the game 8.4/10 in his initial review, while Andrea Giargiari later conducted a photographic comparison between the game’s version of Boston and the real world.
