Revisit New Vegas in Fallout: New California Beta

Published

Fallout

Fallout: New California, the fully-fledged prequel mod for Obsidian Entertainment’s Fallout: New Vegas, has officially entered open beta, which includes the entire story of the game.

New California is amazingly ambitious for a mod, sporting a new story with branching paths, a new playable character, 14,000 lines of voiced dialogue, and 12 different endings. The mod has been in development by project leader Brendan Lee since 2012, originally titled as Fallout: Project Brazil before changing direction.

Story-wise, players assume the role of a new player character, an adopted resident of Vault 18, embarking on a journey through the wastelands of the New California Republic’s Cajon Pass. The mod is listed as a prequel, so the conclusion will likely tie in nicely with the beginning of Fallout: New Vegas‘s fragmented story.

The mod boasts a large open world, littered with outposts and side quests, but the major appeal is the main story, which promises to be lengthy and multifaceted in terms of player choice. Alongside the new map and quests are new monster designs, weapons, and NPCs.

More information can be found on the New California ModDb page. Modders have really outdone themselves in recent years, with standalone mods such as Total War: Rise of Mordor and Neotokyo setting the bar, and New California looks no different. The mod appears to not only be enjoyable, but an essential addition to the Fallout canon.

Report: Game of Thrones Creator Collaborating With FromSoftware

Published

FromSoftware Game of Thrones

The writer of A Song of Ice and Fire, the book series behind the popular television show Game of Thrones, has reportedly been consulting on a FromSoftware title.

In a blog post on his official website, George R. R. Martin stated that he has “consulted on a video game out of Japan.”

Gematsu has reported that a contact familiar with FromSoftware—the Japanese development studio known for Dark SoulsBloodborne, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice—has shared that Martin is working with the studio on a project known internally as “GR.”

According to Gematsu‘s contact, the project, which has been in development for three years, is an open-world game and will feature horse riding. The player will be able to visit several kingdoms and obtain abilities by killing their leaders. Hidetaka Miyazaki, director of some of FromSoftware’s most acclaimed titles, is reportedly working on the game.

Gematsu reports that the title will be officially announced at Microsoft’s E3 press conference later this year.

YouTube channel Spawn Wave reported in March about a rumour regarding a potential collaboration between Martin and FromSoftware, so this recent report gives even more validity to the speculation. However, without any official word, the news should be taken with a grain of salt.
