Fez, the perspective-switching indie sidescroller that released earlier this year (this is the last day I can say such a statement), will finally be finding its way to platforms other than the Xbox 360 in 2013, according to a recent blog post by Polytron lead and influential indie-man Phil Fish.
In the post, Fish reflected on Fez’s development and reception in 2012, saying that he was proud of the game’s launch and that its success will be able to keep him going for a fair while longer.
It didn’t break any records, but it made more than enough to let me keep doing what I do. So I’m afraid you’re stuck with me for a little while longer.
He then went on to state that Fez will eventually make its way to other platforms in 2013, supposedly silencing a plethora of complaints about the matter.
2013 is going to be an interesting [year]… For one, FEZ will finally be ported to other platforms. Yes, I’ve heard you, dozens of people Emailing me everyday telling me how much of an idiot I am for not porting FEZ to everything.
He didn’t state which platforms in particular, but a PC release is a no-brainer. Versions of Fez for IOS devices and PS3 also remain a distinct possibility.
A 2d sidescroller featuring a quirky 8-bit art style and the ability to shift the screen between various 2d planes, Fez was a critical success when it launched on XBLA on April 13, 2012. We’ve nominated it for “Best Unique Gameplay” in our 2012 Game of the Year Nominees, and it was also prominently featured in Indie Game: The Movie, alongside extensive insight into the game’s development and its creator, Phil Fish.
