Final Equinox: The Arrival, a turn-based role-playing space opera by Frozen Realm Studios, has hit Kickstarter to seek USD $30,000 in funding.
Players will assume the role of an admiral of a newly formed fleet based in a stretch of space known as the Outer Worlds. The Outer Worlds is overrun by raiders and space pirates, which players will have to outwit in turn-based space battles.
Gameplay-wise, an entire fleet of ships is available for players to use, with each ship relying on different styles of tactics. Combat will occur on a grid-based plane, with tactics and choices making up the core of play.
Meanwhile, dialogue choices and narratives will take place in visual-novel style interactions, with player choice altering the story significantly. Upgrade paths and skills will allow for different conversational topics, with the developer promising that each decision, however minuscule, will have both short- and long-term consequences.
The narrative is intertwined with travel through random events, forcing players to make choices that will affect morale and supplies. The random event design choice appears to be similar to FTL: Faster Than Light and other classic space rogue-likes. Low morale, which is achieved through unpopular choices, means the admiral’s fleet will perform more poorly than normal.
