At X019, Microsoft has shared a first, brief look at gameplay from the upcoming historical RTS Age of Empires IV.
The footage shows off a walled medieval city that quickly comes under attack. Cavalry and infantry units are shown, as well as siege machines that work to demolish the city gates.
The trailer ends just as the skirmish gets intense.
The footage comes from a pre-alpha build, meaning that what has been shown will likely be subject to change as the development process continues.
Age of Empires IV is the first game in the numbered series not to be developed by Ensemble Studios, which was closed down in 2009. Instead, Sega-owned Relic Entertainment (best known for the Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War and Company of Heroes series) is handling production.
The game was originally announced in 2017, with limited information emerging since then.
Neither release date nor platforms have yet been confirmed, though the game is predicted to arrive on PC.
Meanwhile, Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition launched today.
