Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has today announced the first three fighters who will join Injustice 2’s roster as downloadable characters.

Following the game’s initial launch later this month, the developers at NetherRealm Studios will add DC heroes Starfire and Red Hood, as well as Mortal Kombat star Sub-Zero, all of whom can be seen in action in the trailer embedded below. Although no release date for these additional characters has yet been set, players will have several options to gain access to them.

The first of these options is, of course, to buy them individually as they become available. However, purchasing the Injustice 2 Deluxe Edition will give players access to these characters, as well as a Premier Skin that changes the game’s vanilla Supergirl into Power Girl. The other option is to pick up the more expensive Ultimate Edition, which will provide access to nine downloadable characters, as well as three Premier Skins that will transform other fighters, though the identities of those characters have not yet been revealed.

Starfire, Red Hood, and Sub-Zero join an already-expansive cast of heroes and villains from the DC universe, including fan favourites from 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us, such as Superman, Joker, Batman, and Bane, and new faces from the more obscure archives of DC, including Atrocitus, Gorilla Grodd, and Cheetah.

In total, 32 characters have so far been confirmed for the fighting game, with a handful doubling up through the use of Premier Skins.

OnlySP’s Jereme Puik reviewed the first game, Injustice: Gods Among Us, back in 2013, scoring it 8.5/10 and calling it “a solid fighter.” This sequel is currently scheduled to launch on May 16 in the US and May 19 in Europe for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
