UPDATE: The fix has arrived, along with patch notes.
Originally given an ETA of Monday or Tuesday, it seems that the fix for the save game bug currently found in The Forest will take a little while longer than expected.
According to Tara, the acting PR coordinator for Endnight Games, the hot fix for the save game bug in The Forest isn’t ready yet and isn’t ready to give a new ETA on when it’ll be available.
@TheLiteralGamer We’re going to try and push out a fix as soon as we can, but I cannot confirm the date. Sorry.

While playing The Forest myself, I did find that you can eliminate all the cannibals which will allow you to at least explore the island and test out your building skills in the game. To do this, just acquire as many molotovs as you can, and wait for the cannibals in an open area, preferably the beach. If you have some good aim, and enough molotovs, you can take out the two groups of cannibals that currently hunt you in the game.
I did only test that theory once however, and noting that the plane crash puts you in a random spot on the island, there may be more or less cannibals to take out during your playthrough. After doing what I described above, I was not attacked for the rest of my playthrough and had to end my own life in the game to get the game over screen.
Hopefully Endnight Games will get this bug fixed soon, along with a number of other fixes that players are begging for. We’ll have an early access review up for The Forest once the save game patch is released and we can spend some more time with the game in a less stressful matter. Be sure to stay tuned to OnlySP on Twitter and Facebook to be notified when the save game fix is available and all other updates on The Forest.
