Frictional Games has provided a new update on their upcoming horror game, SOMA, following a long period of silence regarding the games’ status.
According to a new blog post by the Frictional Games team, SOMA has now entered the Pre-Beta stage, which according to them means, “[it] is a milestone in preparation for the proper Beta, basically the full game without the final polish, which will happen a few months into next year. The pre-Beta marks final our chance for us to evaluate a number of crucial elements in the game.”
Most of what the team is looking at is the dialogue for the game, of which there is a lot. According to the blog post, there’s more dialogue in SOMA than all of their previous games put together. The team apparently has almost a months worth of dialogue recorded for the game, so judging by that players should expect a very narrative heavy experience, which of course we like.
The game is entering the final stages of development and will be released sometime in 2015. Here’s what Frictional had to say regarding the subject.
Next week, most of the team will go on Christmas leave, and then get back at the start of the next year for the final push. We are now closing in on a development period of five years and everybody is excited that the end is finally in sight. It is easily the most complex and difficult project we have ever undertaken and being able to release it next year, at a level of quality we are proud of, feels extremely satisfying.
In addition to the update on development, Frictional was kind enough to release a new screenshot for SOMA, which looks really quite stunning when compared to their previous games. Take a look below.
