From Software, the developer behind Bloodborne and the Dark Souls series, has already begun work on a new IP.
In an interview with Chinese outlet GNN Gamer, translated by NeoGAF users, President of From Software and director of Dark Souls Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that there are currently no plans for any further sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ins for the Dark Souls series after the two announced DLC packs.
While he would not rule out the possibility of the studio continuing the series in the future – say, if another From developer came to him and begged to work on the project – Miyazaki’s next game will be something different.
“What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over,” he said. “I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.”
When asked about the possibility of continuing the Armored Core franchise, Miyazaki replied, “Personally I want to do it … but I can’t reveal anything at the moment.”
At the time of Dark Souls II‘s release, there were at least two teams of developers working within From Software. Rumors in November last year suggested that they were working on another PS4 exclusive for Sony, but there has been no official word on their next title.
