Gabe Newell Hints at More Valve Games in the Future

Half-Life - Valve

Valve Corporation’s Gabe Newell has hinted that new games from the company may appear in the future.

During a speech at the launch party of Valve Index, the company’s new VR headset, Valve Corporation president Gabe Newell commented about the milestones that the company has achieved in the past, and potential milestones for the future:

Milestones aren’t really the end of anything; they’re really the beginning. Half-Life led to Half-Life 2. Source [engine] led to Source 2. The experiments we did with Team Fortress 2 were what enabled us to build DotaArtifact is the reason that we’re able to do Underlords.

Maybe, someday, the number 2 will lead us to that shiny integer glowing on a mountain someplace. We’ll just have to see.

Newell is referring to Valve’s apparent inability to develop a game with the number ‘3’ in the title; most of the publisher’s franchises—Half-LifePortalDota, and Left 4 Dead—are yet to receive a third main entry.

Perhaps Half-Life 3 may finally exist someday. OnlySP certainly hopes so, with the series placing at 15 on our 50 Favorite Games.

Rhain discovered a long time ago that mixing one of his passions (video games) with the other (writing) might be a good idea, and now he’s been stuck in the industry for over six years with no means of escaping. His favourite games are those with deep and captivating narratives: while it would take far too long to list them all, some include L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption (and its sequel), Wolfenstein: The New Order, The Last of Us, and the Uncharted series.
