God of War Given Mid-April Release Date

After a titan-sized amount of teasing, the next entry in the God of War series has finally been given a release date of April 20, 2018.

This announcement has been a long time coming since the games initial announcement back in 2016. Though the project was originally scheduled for a 2017 release, it seems to have found its new home in the last third of April.

The long overdue announcement came coupled with a succinct story trailer. The reveal came out of nowhere this past week, so the fact it came with a fresh look at the story makes the surprise that much more impactful.

Instead of focusing on what kind of set pieces players can expect to see, this trailer focused on Kratos’s relationship with his son. Kratos seems to not just be serving as a guide for the boy, but as a mentor as well. Of course, despite a more somber approach to the typical God of War trailers, this one still features a fair amount of Kratos doing what he does best.

Perhaps most interestingly though, the game seems as though it will show players not just who the boy his, but to have a focus on who Kratos has become as a person as well.

Additionally, the game may take on a slightly lighter tone than previous entries if the trailer is anything to go by. One character in particular has a comedic line about asking Kratos to chop off his head.

Before this trailer was revealed, fans had already been drawing comparisons to both 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn and 2013’s The Last of Us. Now, thanks to this latest trailer, the outcry has grown. Some of the fans have responded positively, while some others are still hoping for something a little different than what they feel as though they have been getting for the last decade or so.
