Homefront 2 to be “5X what the original was”

2

Anybody remember Homefront? FPS? Released last year? Meh reviews? It’s getting a sequel. Now, don’t scoff just yet; it’s at the hands of a completely different developer, Crytek UK, and according to THQ’s Danny Bilson, it’s already a major improvement over the first.

He’s been working very closely with Crytek on the game, which is going to continue the first game’s near-future story of a United States under siege by a rearmed and reorganized North Korea. It will be set in a different part of North America, though, and gameplay will be significantly overhauled.

“It’s so far phenomenal. So far. We’ve got a long way to go, the pre-production has been spectacular, I think it’s 5X the game we delivered before when it’s fully realised.”

“Homefront had fantastic creative,” he continued. “Arguably, at least in my opinion, one of the best properties for a first person shooter, a fresh world, great environmental storytelling and the execution unfortunately… even though I think it has some phenomenal things in that game, we sold a lot of them and it resonated with people, there were also issues around execution.”

“Not that it wasn’t good, but you’re being compared to Call Of Duty and Battlefield, two of the best made games in the business. So what do you do if you’re us and you’ve got this IP you believe in, you know you’ve got the fanbase, you’ve got a million ideas, how do you solve the problem? You go to a beloved developer that we believe can bring our execution up to the level of Call Of Duty and Battlefield with our incredible IP.”

Currently, the game is set for a 2014 release date and will probably release for next-gen consoles. Have any of you guys played Homefront? If so, what are some things you feel should be improved for the sequel?

  1. I really enjoyed the first one.  It was a pretty gritty vision of an occupied America.  It had its flaws, but they were minor.  As long as they tighten up the gunplay and AI without screwing up the story, they can have a hell of a sequel.

  2. i played the original homefont and i liked it to but i think thee were some major problems with it first was the length of the story, i think that was one of the problems, secondly was the ai it often did things that was not smart and once or twice it got you killed, secondly i think the ending was rushed like they had started something but didn't know how to finish it so they put this ending up together at the last minute, and finally i think if you give the characters a little more individuality and flesh them out some more pople would have cared for them. Homefront at its core was a great game but with COD or Battlefield out there they needed to step it up a notch and they just didn't have the skills or the inspiration to do it. I think that with crytek doing the franchise that they now have the skills, inspiration and the one major good thing the original had, heart and when it comes out it will be able to compete with the big boys.
