The Piano, a title that bridges the gap between noir-intrigue and survival horror, has been delayed until June 4, 2018.
Originally, the project was slated for a May 24 release, but production hit a stumbling block when an unforeseen “technical issue” scuppered the developer’s plan.
In a candid statement, the Hamburg-based studio development team Mistaken Visions said, “We’ve taken the difficult decision to delay release of The Piano just slightly. The game will now release on Monday 4th June. Why? Because game development. At the start of the month, we thought we had a release candidate. We hit ‘build’, crossed our fingers, and… something broke. […] So we were left with a tough decision: stick with the 24th May, and run the risk of shipping a product that didn’t meet our high standards… or delay the release by one week to make sure we could really put the build through its paces and ensure you get the highest quality game we’re capable of.”
The Piano has had something of a rough development process, with the title originally announced in 2016 for an early 2017 release. Following feedback from early testers, the game’s creator Jonathan Stemmildt decided to delay the game until this year, along with partnering with indie PR company Game If You Are. As a result, the project has expanded from Stemmildt’s humble aspirations, with the final product appearing to be a competent mish-mash of survival horror design and noir aestheticism.
The Piano, with a fresh release date of June 4, will be available on Steam for USD$9.99. Be sure to revisit The Piano‘s 2018 trailer, embedded below.
