Darkseid Unveiled for Injustice 2

With Injustice 2’s release date not approaching fast enough, the official Injustice 2 YouTube channel posted a new gameplay trailer introducing Darkseid, Lord of Apokolips.

The trailer introduces the DC supervillain’s hard-hitting fighting style with a mixture of speed and laser beams. Fans of DC comics and their superhero universe will also be familiar with other characters that appear in the trailer. View the full gameplay trailer below.

If the trailer is any indication, Injustice 2’s combat will be similar, if not identical, to that of its predecessor, Injustice: Gods Among Us. However, the game will feature a new mechanic: The Gear System. The Gear System will give players more control over their characters in the game. The system will allow players to not only customize the appearance of their characters, but also cater their skills and abilities to the players’ specific playstyles. Players will also be able to earn gear to upgrade their characters’ abilities and make them more powerful.

Injustice 2 is scheduled for release on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 for Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game is the sequel to 2013’s Injustice: Gods Among Us, which scored 8.5 in OnlySP’s review. NetherRealm Studios, the current company responsible for the famous Mortal Kombat series, is the developer behind the project. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment will handle publication and distribution.

NetherRealm Studios is a video game developer based in Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 2010, the company replaced WB Games Inc. and Midway Games—the original publisher of the Mortal Kombat franchise—after Midway filed for bankruptcy in 2009. Ed Boon, co-creator of the Mortal Kombat series, is the creative director of NetherRealm Studios.
