Dontnod Entertainment — the developers of Life is Strange — are also the developers behind the cyberpunk game, Remember Me, (released back in 2013) which was praised for its visuals and combat system. Similar to Remember Me, Life is Strange not only has been praised for its visual style, but also for its narrative and how it attempts to revolutionize choices and consequence narratives with the rewind game power Max controls.
Life is Strange is part of a wider shift in the video game industry of developers producing short, episodic games where the narrative is the main focus with simple game mechanics which was originally spearheaded by Telltale Games who have created episodic games based on famous franchises such as The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Borderlands. However, recent developers such as Dontnod Entertainment have used the episodic formula for their own franchises, including the recent Resident Evil Revelations 2, in order to appeal to a new market with established franchises.
