Medieval City Builder Foundation Heading to Kickstarter Next Week

Polymorph Games has revealed that it will begin the crowdfunding effort for its medieval-styled city builder Foundation next week.

The team revealed the news in lieu of its usual Screenshot Saturday post on Twitter. The campaign will officially begin on Tuesday, February 13 at 8am EST. However, further details, such as the funding target and stretch goals remain under wraps for now.

One of the central changes that Foundation is making to the traditional formula is the removal of a building grid. Instead, players will be able to develop their city free-form in the manner of real pre-modern cities, which tended to sprawl without a clearly defined sense of order. The game also allows users to build monuments—churches, cathedrals, and castles—that offer a morale boost to the population. While most city builders have preset designs for such structures, those in Foundation are planned and built by the player.

The game has been in development since early 2016, and Polymorph Games has created a new game engine to allow its vision to blossom.

OnlySP spoke to the game’s Creative Director, Philippe Dion, late last year as part of the Indie Highlight Reel, and many more details about the project are available in that short interview.
