Crystal Dynamics has announced that Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel, will be one of the main playable characters of Marvel’s Avengers.

Kamala is the narrator of the trailers, speaking from the point of being a fan. She will be the main focus of the game’s story.

Kamala Khan has elastic-like powers and the ability to grow in size. She will feature a move set that references her superhero idles as she uses stretchy and supersized limbs to attack, with her well known ‘Embiggen’ ability that has her grow in size dealing extra damage.

In a behind-the-scenes video about the character, lead combat designer Vince Napoli stated that the team made “an entirely new reaction set for the enemies to really deliver on the feel of being three times, four times the size of the enemies you are kicking around.”

The team used the comics as a main point of reference as a way to stay true to the character, while adding some unique elements. Ms. Marvel got her powers during the A-Day tragedy as the Terrigen Mist unlocked the dormant cells within her, like in the comics.

Kamala Kahn brings the Avengers back together after finding proof of A-Day being a set-up.

Originally appearing in the 2013 Captain Marvel comics, Kamala Kahn is the first Muslim American superhero to receive her own comic that launched in 2014. She will also be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a future series airing on Disney+.

First announced as The Avengers Project in January 2017Marvel’s Avengers was finally revealed at E3 in June 2019. Described as the “biggest thing we’ve ever done” by developer Crystal Dynamics, the game is viewed by the developer as a new type of live service experience expected to last multiple years, despite being fully playable in single-player. The game received a new 18-minute gameplay video last month, where some of the changes to the character models were revealed.

After seeing the game at E3 this year, OnlySP’s Michael Cripe felt that it “does not seem to pack the punch it so desperately needed for its debut,” despite having high hopes for the project before its reveal.

Marvel’s Avengers will be released for Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 15, 2020.
