Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, the post-apocalyptic turn-based strategy title developed by The Bearded Ladies, which includes former Payday and HITMAN designers, has received an extensive first look of the project’s gameplay.
The title looks like an enticing combination of Fallout and X-Com, filtered through a comic book-inspired aesthetic akin to Telltale’s games and Gravity Falls. Players will take control of a team of Mutants navigating a post-human Earth, combating all sorts of post-apocalyptic ghouls, monsters, and mechs.
The central team, which appears to consist of Selma, a human character, alongside an anthropomorphic duck named Dux and pig called Bormin, is delightfully cartoonish and grotesque imitations of their real-life counterparts.
As for gameplay, the video showcases the project’s central hub, along with a look at the title’s skill trees, equipment systems, overworld, and combat. The combat system appears to bridge the gap between X-COM‘s standard of tactical play and CRPG sensibilities, whilst maintaining a strong emphasis on stealth.
Mutant Year Zero is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One sometime in 2018.
