Need for Speed Payback E3

Fans had a first glimpse at Need For Speed Payback, 2017’s entry in EA’s long-running racing franchise, earlier today.

Electronic Arts unveiled the footage ahead of the EA Play press conference, and showed off the fast-paced action that will headline the title. The footage shows off one of the game’s missions, in which the characters attempt to steal a Koenigsegg Regera supercar from the back of a moving truck.

While the explosive gameplay is the focus of the footage, fans also get a first glimpse at the personalities of the main characters. Perhaps the most glaring aspect, however, is the influence of EA’s other racing franchise, the dormant Burnout, as evidenced by the way that adversary NPCs can be knocked off the road with a few gentle bumps and the slow-motion camera pans that accompany their destruction.

The footage also shows off the on-the-fly switching between characters that was announced as one of the headline features of Need For Speed Payback:

The game is scheduled for release on November 10, 2017 on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Earlier today, EA also offered new footage of the highly-anticipated Star Wars: Battlefront II, and revealed the first trailer of Mass Effect developer, Bioware’s, new IP, Anthem.
