Notch Leaves Mojang After Microsoft Buyout

Microsoft confirmed today on the company’s blog, that the acquisition of Mojang for 2.5 billion dollars had been confirmed. Microsoft also revealed that release dates for Minecraft on Playstation consoles will not be changed, and that players can continue to enjoy their experience.

In the wake of the buyout, Markus “Notch” Persson and other company founders are leaving the company. The departures were confirmed on the company website, “The founders: Notch, Carl, and Jakob are leaving. We don’t know what they’re planning. It won’t be Minecraft-related but it will probably be cool.”

Carl Manneh, CEO of Mojang, released a statement in the wake of the announcement in their press release.

The ‘Minecraft’ players have taken the game and turned it into something that surpassed all of our expectations. The acquisition by Microsoft brings a new chapter to the incredible story of ‘Minecraft. As the founders move on to start new projects, we believe the high level of creativity from the community will continue the game’s success far into the future.
